Wild Card Challenge Night: Recipes & Their Stories

Wild Card Challenge Night: Recipes & Their Stories

Join us for a cozy evening under the stars as we gather around the fire for a night of stories, flavors, and connection. For this challenge, each writer will create a story, poem, or short memoir inspired by a favorite recipe. Then, share your piece with the group as we listen, laugh, and celebrate the way both stories and food bring people together.

To make it even sweeter, bring along the recipe itself—and if you’d like, the dish too—so we can taste the memories behind your words. From passed-down family treasures to recipes you’ve made your own, we look forward to every bite and every story.

Where: Outside by the fire at Catalyst Ranch (Nicole’s house)

What to bring: Your written piece, the recipe and/or the food itself, a cozy sweater or blanket to stay warm

Let’s feed both our hearts and our appetites with stories that taste like home.

Memoir challenge & Fireside Sharing Circle

Join us for an evening of courage, connection, and storytelling beneath the open sky. In this sacred circle around the fire, we’ll take on a memoir challenge designed to draw out the stories that live within us—the ones that shaped us, the ones we’ve carried, and the ones we’re ready to release.

This is a space where your voice is honored and your story is witnessed with compassion. As we share, listen, and hold space for one another, we invite healing through the simple, powerful act of being seen and heard. Together, we’ll explore how telling our truths can free us from the weight of our narratives and create deeper connection within ourselves and our community.

10 minute time limit per person.

Bring a snack to share and bring your own beverage.

Come as you are. Speak from the heart. Let the fire warm us and the stories transform us.

Discover Yourself, Define Your Voice

Nicole B Roberts, award-winning artist and author will help you unlock your personality “spirit animal” to write more authentically.

Understanding personality types can enhance a writer's self-awareness, allowing them to leverage their natural strengths and address potential creative blocks. For nonfiction writers, personality typing provides valuable insights into audience engagement by tailoring communication styles to resonate with different reader preferences.

Personality typing benefits writers by deepening their understanding of human behavior and motivation. It helps them craft authentic, multidimensional characters by exploring diverse personality traits, strengths, weaknesses, and decision-making processes.

Overall, it's a tool for building empathy, authenticity, and connection in storytelling.

As a bonus, it is a great way to get to know other Girls Who Write!

Mad Love Poetry Challenge and Tea Party

Step into the whimsical, topsy-turvy world of the Mad Hatter, where love takes on curious forms and poetry bends the rules of reason!

This challenge invites Girls Who Write to pour their hearts out with a touch of madness, embracing playful wordplay, unexpected metaphors, and quirky declarations of affection.

Explore themes of wonder, chaos, and romance in a setting where tea parties are eternal, clocks run backward, and love is as unpredictable as Wonderland itself. Whether you're crafting riddles of devotion, eccentric odes, or nonsensical serenades, let your imagination spill over like an unending cup of tea.

Rules:

1            Infuse your poem with Mad Hatter vibes— eccentricity, whimsy, and a dash of nonsense are a must.

2            Tie your creation to the theme of love in any form-romantic, platonic, or self-love.

3            Break poetic conventions if you wish; after all, we're all mad here!

4            Attend our Mad Tea Party wearing your silliest hat and share your whimsical word play with the group.

May your words be as wild as the Mad Hatter's hat collection!
